Sprinkle of Self-Care: PPNYC Case Study
Sprinkle of Self-Care
Course: Integrative Studio
Roles: Research, design, creating models, storytelling.
Team: Alexis Madara / Michelle Rotbart / Nirav Tolani
This project was part of an Integrative Studio course in my master’s program at Parsons. Our class is partnered with Planned Parenthood NYC, with the objective of engaging immigrant populations. We focused specifically on international students that then had the potential to engage larger immigrant communities.
We each worked on all parts of this project.
In our research we heard stories of international students struggling with navigating sexual-health and wellness from stories of wanting to know more about protection in sexual encounters to stories of feeling trapped in physically violent relationships and ending up in the E.R. We wanted to explore how to prevent those situations and build relationships and trust between planned parenthood and international students.
To reframe sexual health maintenance we first needed to define self-care, and sexual-health. Two terms that are used frequently but, we found, often not fully understood or explained.
Persona
We created this crisis prevention formula to think of what tools we could create to intervene and get helpful information to Riya so she had the confidence and knew the early signs of domestic violence to navigate her way out of an abusive relationship, as mentioned before, prior to escalation.
